About Miss Toby

Miss Toby is a 1986 graduate of the prestigious Judith McCarty School of Dance - 10 Year Teachers' Course. She has been teaching in the Conway area since that time. In 1996, she was awarded "Dance Teacher of the Year" by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance from among teachers on the college level. This was based on her five years of instruction at the University of Central Arkansas, where she piloted courses in country western and ballroom dance, and taught archery, gymnastics, and aerobics. She was also elected to serve on the Alliance's Board of Directors for two years as head of the dance division. She is a member of the Southern Association of Dance Masters and the Texas Association Teachers of Dance. In order to become a member of a dance association, a minimum score must be achieved on a written examination and a skills test. She was one of the few dance teachers ever to receive a perfect score (100%) on the ballet examination. In addition to studio work, Miss Toby has taught at satellite sites in Crystal Hill, Morrilton, Mayflower, and various Conway locations. She continues to teach ballroom and country western dance classes at the University of Central Arkansas and Hendrix College.

She has taught horseback riding since 1982. In addition to private group instruction, she performs mini-rodeos, hosts birthday parties, sets pony carousels, conducts horseback camps, and leads trail rides, all of which feature her many animals. She is in constant demand at company functions. Miss Toby also rodeos and actively competes in the events of breakaway roping, barrel racing, goat tying, and team roping. She was the High School Rodeo All-Around Cowgirl in 1979. Miss Toby qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals three years and served as the National Goat Tying Director two of those years. She qualified for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Finals three years. She was crowned Miss Arkansas Rodeo State Fair Queen in 1986 and Arkansas Cowboy Association (ACA) Rodeo Queen in 1985. She has won several ACA and Arkansas Rodeo Association (ARA) state rodeo championships, having competed in ACA and ARA Rodeo finals since 1977. Additionally, Miss Toby has won several all-around rodeo titles.

She completed her B.S.E. in Health and Physical Education at the University of Central Arkansas in 1984. She achieved a 4.0 grade point average and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She continued to pursue her education and received an M.S.E. in Physical Education in 1986, also with a 4.0 grade point average. While attending the University of Central Arkansas, she was named to "Who's Who Among College and University Students", elected to Homecoming Royalty, competed on the state champion swim team for three years, and participated as a member of the cheerleading squad for three years and served as captain for one year.
